MSPs, Fire a Tech and Bring Telemarketing In-House!

That is a very provocative statement, why do we suggest such a radical idea?

First consider that MSP Mentor, in a recent blog, has reported that successful managed services providers spend much more on marketing than the average computer consultant.

With that being said, where can an IT firm send more money on marketing and where can they get the money for the increase in spending?

Most computer consultants tell us their marketing comes from word-of-mouth or organic search engine marketing, along with pay-per- click.  Now you can’t really spend more money on word-of-mouth referrals nor can you seriously spend more money on organic search engine marketing.  Unless you hired a writer full time to crank out articles, which most have already taken that offshore, at a lower cost.  You can spend more on pay-per-click marketing but there is still only so many people in your region looking at managed services marketing.  So at some point you’re really going to reach a ceiling.

We suggest that you spend more on marketing by hiring a telemarketer and bringing telemarketing in-house.

Most managed services providers these days have outsourced the backbone of managed services operations to some of the big vendors like Kaysea or Zenith etc…   Depending on how many services you outsource  to your  infrastructure partner, you should be able to reduce your level of in-house techs.  We know many computer consultants are still holding on to most of their Techs and not outsourcing many features; but this should be reconsidered!

If you were able to shed some technical personnel that could free up some money in the budget to hire a telemarketing representative.

Of course, by bringing telemarketing in-house you could reach those prospect that are not looking for other services, yet!  They could penetrate to the prospects that are still opened minded and still haven’t heard of managed services yet.  To take full advantage and avoid having the telemarketing effort turn into a boondoggle; you will need to consultant with some experts in the field.
